A Review Of The South African Rand Travelex Cash Passport

Written by Tony Adams on June 24, 2010 – 4:48 am -

You can see much fluctuation in rates for travel money depending on a number of factors. How do you find the best rates for your money? What charges may be hidden in what you will pay? Will this review for the South Africa Rand Travelex Cash Passport determine if or not the Travelex card presents a reasonable rate?

Don’t place your trust in the myth about commission-free travel

That’s really the first thing that you need to know. There are a lot of people who truly believe the zero commission won’t denote an additional fee or exchange rate allowance. But this is definitely not the case! Be sure that you always remember to contrast different foreign exchange prices and currency exchange prices before you make your order.

What’s so important about foreign exchange fees?

If you make a stop in a foreign nation during your travels to South Africa or have some surplus petty cash after coming back home, it’s likely that you will feel like spending the funds on that travel money card while outside of South Africa. Using the card outside of South Africa means you’ll have to pay the Travelex Cash Passport foreign exchange fees. If you have 500 left on your Rand card that you want to cash in, you’ll have to pay a fee of 28.75 just to get your money back!

Get Hold Of The Cheapest Price For Currency On Your Next Trip

Written by Lucy Baker on June 22, 2010 – 6:02 am -

If you are planning on going abroad for a holiday this year, you may not have thought too much about your currency options yet. It is however an important consideration as failing to choose the best currency rate may leave you significantly out of pocket. We shall explore some of the options available and help you decide what is likely to be best for you.

Of all options, cash is definitely the most obvious and benefits from being the most widely accepted of all payment methods. It certainly is not a desirable option though, as purchasing cash is very expensive. In addition there is no protection or insurance offered against loss or theft, and so when abroad you should keep the amount you carry on your person to a minimum.

Travellers cheques, while often seen as a thing of the past, are still a valid payment option. The main advantage is security, as lost or stolen cheques can be replaced by the issuing institution, and fees are usually fairly low in comparison to other options. However, very few retailers accept travellers cheques nowadays and most people would prefer not to spend their holiday queuing at a bank to exchange their cheques for cash.

How Much Currency Do You Waste Converting Currency At The Airport?

Written by James Rose on June 19, 2010 – 4:44 pm -

Anyone going on a foreign holiday in the near future might be interested to discover how best to compare currency exchange rates. It is a very important consideration as choosing the wrong option can prove very costly indeed given the difference in fees. By looking at some choices we can help you decide what is best for you.

Cash seems almost too obvious to mention, as it is accepted absolutely everywhere. It really is a poor choice though as commission paid to purchase the cash is often very expensive, and if your cash is lost or stolen than there is no way to recover your loss. Pickpockets are always on the lookout for tourists with bulging wallets, and carrying large sums of cash is not to be recommended.

Although perhaps seen as something of a relic these days, travellers cheques are still in common usage. Security is their key advantage as if misplaced, the issuer can easily cancel them and provide replacements. They are not at all user friendly though and despite their low cost, the fact that virtually no retailers accept them should put you off using them. That is of course unless your ideal holiday involves endlessly queuing up at banks!

The Best Travel Credit Card For Australians To Use Overseas

Written by Brook Mitchell on June 15, 2010 – 8:47 am -

The question for Aussies on which credit card to use overseas is a tough one. The choices are poor, with almost all cards available to Australians having high fees for overseas transactions. The best choice at present is the Wizard clear Advantage Mastercard. There is no annual fee, or ‘currency conversion’ fees, or even ATM fees when the card is used abroad.

The majority of credit cards, be they debit or credit, have high fees attached for taking out cash while overseas. There is the ‘conversion fee’ which is usually 2-3% of the amount you withdraw. On top of this is the ATM charge, which can be up to $7.50 on its own. These rubbish fees can be avoided using the Wizard Clear Advantage card.

While the Wizard website is does not really advertise some of these features, they are there for you to take advantage of. The interest rate is quite high, but all you have to do is keep the card in credit, sign up to use a pin on the card and use it like you would your everyday ATM/transaction card while you are overseas.

You Can Dodge The Horrible Fees With Travel Money!

Written by Steven Welch on June 5, 2010 – 12:51 pm -

When you go on vacation there is always so much to do to prepare for the relaxing time ahead. You need to pack and figure out what you will need, make prior arrangements for pet care, day care and plant watering. You will also need to get together all your official documents and one very important if not crucial thing you need to think about is travel cash.

When you take foreign currency abroad you have a number of choices of obtaining it. One way to do this is to go to the bank. You will need to first of all find a bank that offers this service and then you place an order for the amount you would like and in which currency. A definite disadvantage of this is that banks usually have charges for this service and you could end up paying for simply getting money in a different currency and this service is usually higher at the airport since they count on last minute travelers changing cash here.

A Prepaid Currency Card Saves You Money On Euros – But Which One Should You Pick?

Written by Bob Kane on June 4, 2010 – 12:41 pm -

If you are on your way to a business trip, a family holiday or a backpacking adventure in Europe, you’ve got to consider which way is best to access your funds during your stay on the continent. There are quite a few options, but not all of them come with the same price tag or level of convenience. Let us consider a few options to get the best euro exchange rate briefly.

Firstly you can of course go to your bank or an official money changer and exchange all your British Pounds for Euros in cash. You will have a thick wad of notes and probably feel very rich, but if you stand still to think about this option for more than five seconds, you will realize it’s very risky. No matter where you hide that money, it can be stolen and you will have no way of getting it back.

Another alternative is to have your Pounds converted into travellers cheques. It’s definitely less risky than taking cash, since travellers cheques are normally insured. You might not get the best exchange rate though and you will soon find out it’s quite a drag to stand in queues every few days to exchange travellers cheques when you run of out money.

Taking A Vacation With A Prepaid Card

Written by Caroline Jones on May 29, 2010 – 8:43 am -

Taking a vacation out of the country can be a daunting task. There are lots of things to think about before you just up and leave. Thinking about where you are going to go is just the beginning. How are you going to get to this vacation spot? Do you know where you are going to stay once you have arrived? Even if you do know these things do you have any idea of what you are going to do when you do arrive? Finally do you have any idea how you are going to deal with foreign currency? The last question is the easiest to answer. Just take a vacation with your prepaid card.

You can use this just like you would a credit card without the extra fees associated with some credit cards. You can buy them in pre-determined amounts or you can buy one that you may fill with the amount of money that you desire. It is as simple as that. You can use it at home or in a different country the same way you would use a debit card.

Stop Being Ripped Off On Foreign Exchange! Here Is How It’s Done:

Written by Neil Clarke on May 9, 2010 – 11:50 am -

Travel money rates can be quite expensive. You have the choice of cash, travelers checks or credit or debit cards. You may of course need some foreign currency cash for a taxi or tips. It is a good idea to get this before you leave since a currency office may not be open upon your arrival or to avoid another stop altogether. Using cash can be quite risky and is not always the best choice for exchange rates.

Exchange rates are usually great on debit cards or credit cards. These have often been most suggested for ease of use and savings. Now banks are charging fees on each use as foreign currency and additional fees for ATM use. When using credit cards there is always the chance of going over budget and most certainly there are the finance fees. Using a debit card going over budget is unlikely. If the card is stolen or lost, it is time consuming to restore funds to your bank account and you may not get it all back.

Get Around Those Extortionate Exchange Rates Next Time You Go Away

Written by Nigel Hakki on May 5, 2010 – 11:00 am -

If you are considering going to a foreign country this year then it is important to get your money sorted out before you leave. Many of us leave this aspect of our trip until the last minute, which means that we often end up paying over the odds in terms of tourist currency rates. There are different ways of getting currency for your trip. Read on to find the best option available.

The first option is to use your credit card. This can seem like an attractive option but it is filled with disadvantages. The credit card provider will often charge you a hefty amount for making withdrawals at ATMs abroad. You may also be charged handling fees as well as high commission rates. There is also the chance of your identity being stolen and your card used without your knowledge.

Another popular choice for travellers is travellers cheques. These bits of paper are worth a certain value and must be signed by the buyer once received. The problem with travellers cheques is that they are very easily stolen or misplaced. If they do go missing, it is also a hassle to get them replaced by the issuer (for starters you have to have all of the cheque numbers that were on the cheques!). The main disadvantage of this option is that customers are often charge very high tourist currency rates when swapping currencies.

Get Better Exchange Rates For Your Foreign Exchange, And Have More To Spend While You Are Away

Written by Daniel Wilson on May 4, 2010 – 4:54 pm -

If you are set to journey to a warmer climate this year, then the thought of currency will be high on your agenda. Saying this, many of us take the topic for granted, choosing to exchange our Pounds at the very last minute, often resulting in us paying inflated foreign exchange rates. Taking the time to ensure that you get the best deals and use effective methods of changing your currency will make for a better break away.

One of the most popular ways of changing your Sterling is to use a Bureau De Change. There are many of these around including at the Post Office, banks and building societies. There are however, several disadvantages to changing GBP into the currency you need at these establishments. For starters, you may be paying over the odds in the form of handling fees or minimum charges, not to mention commission for actually processing the foreign exchange transaction for you.
