Dr Klaus Maertens the inventor of the famous Dr Martens boots made his first commercial footwear in 1947. To start with the majority of his customers were German housewives who found the air-soled footwear comfortable for all day wear. In 1959 the company Dr Martens was founded to distribute his shoes internationally. Dr Martens quickly began making safety boots and shoes for use in industrial settings.

At first only safety boots were available, but over the years the range has expanded. You can now buy safety hiking boots, trainers, boots, shoes and rigger boots. Their range includes a few models made specifically for women, but the size and width range is such that all models will fit both sexes.

All of their safety shoes have air-filled soles that provide comfort for people that are on their feet for most of the day. In addition the soles are puncture resistant to prevent injuries from standing on sharp objects like nails and have anti-static properties to protect against static shocks. The majority are also anti-slip and have steel toe caps. They all meet EN ISO standards in Europe and American safety standards too.
