Door Lock Repair Can Be A Hassle
Written by Dan Hindel on March 11, 2010 – 11:43 am -When it comes to door lock repairs, there will be some instances where you can do it yourself and some instances where you will have to call a professional. The important thing is to recognize the difference between the two.
If the mechanisms of a lock are damaged, you should just hire a professional or replace the lock entirely. It will be a huge inconvenience if your key gets broken off by faulty pieces inside. It is also a big security risk if your house must be left unlocked or if you cannot get in. There are a few things you can do for the maintenance of your locks so this will not happen. You can oil them and make sure they are clean.
What you can do for minor repairs mainly revolve around keeping the lock clean. If the lock turns with difficulty, it could mean there is a lot of dust in the lock. Blow condensed air through it once a month or so to keep dust from settling and making the gears stick. Another thing to do is to keep the lock oiled so it turns well and does not do damage to itself when it turns. In the winter when you locks freeze, you can hold your key over a flame, get it hot, and put it carefully in the lock.

Tips To Fix The Buzz In Fluorescent Lamps
Written by Scott Rodgers on March 10, 2010 – 4:41 pm -It’s a well-known fact that fluorescent lighting is cost effective and cheaper to operate than incandescent bulbs. People being aware of the harmful effects of incandescent lamps are now switching over to florescent lamps. Since these are capable of illuminating a large amount of bright light and consumes less energy.
Although, fluorescent light is least expensive and reliable, it may not always be on the top of the list – especially when environment is concerned. Reason being, these have some flip sides as well. Unfortunately, fluorescent lighting is prone to hum or buzz when it is about to go bad.
Mostly all the fluorescent lights consist of ballast that are comprised of an inductor. A change in the flow of alternating current through the inductor creates a changing magnetic field, which in turn creates, or induces, a changing voltage in the wire, retarding the current flow. This causes the fluorescent light fixtures to buzz.
Before making any adjustments and replacements to the electricity, make sure you have turned off the appliance on which you are working. In this case you can either turn off the power at the light switch before removing the fluorescent bulb from its fixture or simply shut down power at the circuit box for the fixture as well.

Handling The Job Of A Live Electrical Wire
Written by Scott Rodgers on March 10, 2010 – 1:29 pm -Experts advise the beginners and the novices of the electrical trade to switch off the main power supply before commencing the concerned project. The homeowners who often forget about such general precautions invite possible hazards to their home electrical setup. Misapprehension on that front could prove costly for the structural integrity of the electrical framework. You can determine the same with the help of a voltage tester or digital multi-meter.
The wise thing to do is to switch off the breaker switches one by one. Alternatively, you can pull out the cap of the electric fuse to cut the electricity supply. However, you may face a situation where you would not have enough time to locate or reach the electrical breaker box or electric fuse. Any delay in the required action would make the things slip out of your hand.
For instance, a member of your home may find himself caught in an unfortunate shock. In case of AC supply, the shock may send shivers down the body of the person and may release him or her immediately. The things reverse when the supply is of direct current (DC). Loss of time could lead to an unfortunate loss of life. In such a situation, you can adopt two possible paths. You can either run down to the breaker box of your home or cut the live electrical wire instantly.

Keep Your Septic Tank Well Maintained
Written by Scott Rodgers on March 10, 2010 – 11:51 am -A septic tank is a large tank meant to store sewage waste while it settles. The septic tank design is used widely throughout the world. Sewage enters the septic tank from the house where it is left to separate. Heavy solids settle to the bottom of the septic tank, while the relatively clear water rises to the top where it is allowed to leach off into the earth. Once in the leach field, any remaining solids are taken care of, and the water rejoins the greater water table.
Regular caring of the tank is a must. A failed septic system can be a major expense and put the groundwater that supplies your drinking water at risk. No matter what the cause, septic system failure is a nuisance and a health hazard that should be corrected promptly. Failures can result in pollution of wells, lakes, and streams.
Stick to the following as guidelines to ensure proper health of your septic system. First and the most important step in this regard is to pump the tank every 3 to 5 years. Hire a talented plumber to check the depth of the sludge in your tank and make pumping schedule recommendations. Depending on your waste water usage, pumping may be necessary more or less frequently.
