Relief For Heartburn
Written by Carolyn Collins on June 6, 2010 – 11:38 am -Heartburn is rampant. Even children can be subject to it’s discomforts. Call it acid reflux, GERD, or heartburn, you still want to know a quick fix for heartburn.
Prevention, of course is the better course. And that is possible by learning food combining, and by following a holistic heartburn cure system. But for right now when your throat is burning, try these tips.
1. Try chewing some sugar-free gum. It will cause your glands to produce more saliva, which, as it runs down your throat, will help rinse that acid back into the stomach where it belongs. The flavor isn’t the most important thing, but some folks find peppermint does not work so well. Neither does plain water.
2. Hard candies are a good thing to suck on. They cause you to create saliva the same as chewing gum. Saliva has bicarbonate properties that help neutralize the acid.
3. My Dad’s favorite relief came from a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed in a glass of water. For him it seemed to work fairly well. It helped me also, but, I had more trouble with the taste than Dad did.

GERD Tips – Proper Treatment is Required.
Written by Chris B. Robinson on March 12, 2010 – 10:52 am -Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a more serious form of gastroesophageal reflux (GER), which is common. Chronic GERD that is untreated can cause serious complications. Inflammation of the esophagus from refluxed stomach acid can damage the lining and cause bleeding or ulcers-also called esophagitis. Scars from tissue damage can lead to strictures-narrowing of the esophagus-that make swallowing difficult. A very serious consequence can be Barrett’s esophagus, in which cells in the esophageal lining take on an abnormal shape and color. Over time, the cells can lead to esophageal cancer, which is often fatal. Persons with GERD and its complications should be monitored closely by a physician or healthcare practitioner.
Asthma, chronic cough, and pulmonary fibrosis may be worsened by GERD, as suggested by research.
Six Points to Remember with GERD:
1) Frequent heartburn, or acid indigestion, is the most common symptom of GERD in adults. Anyone experiencing heartburn twice a week or more may have GERD.
2) You can have GERD without having heartburn. Your symptoms could include a dry cough, asthma symptoms, or trouble swallowing.

Heartburn Sufferer? Learn What Possibly Is Starting It
Written by Eddie Lamb on March 5, 2010 – 6:21 pm -These days there are several causes of heartburn. This is largely so because of the fast paced way we live and the type of foods we consume. Most of these foods contain substances that are responsible for this condition. Their effect on the muscle that controls food entry into the stomach is more or less negative since it causes the muscle to relax thereby allowing stomach content to flow outwards thus causing a burning sensation.
One of the food substances confirmed to have a relaxation effect on the gate-keeping muscle of the stomach is caffeine. It is found in food substances like coffee, tea, and other drinks or beverages that have caffeine in them. The caffeine causes the muscle to relax, causing the content of the stomach to spill out of it. This brings about a burning sensation in the chest area.
Another food substance identified as a cause of heartburn is chocolate. This food substance that is widely consumed across the world today is partly made up of a substance known as theobromine. Theobromine is also found naturally in some plants like tea, cocoa, and coffee plants. This also has the same effect like caffeine on the esophageal sphincter, which causes the same results.
