Zodiac Symbolism From Asian New Year
Written by John Chan on January 24, 2010 – 12:53 pm -It is a common fact that Chinese zodiac signs include of animal symbol. These are firmly attached to Chinese culture for ages. Learn how these symbols come to light during New Year celebrations.
Culturally these zodiac animals hold a position of prominence in Chinese society as they feel that the zodiac signs are scientific in nature. As far as their origin is concerned they are all legendary and have little to do with science. But the Chinese philosophers have put forward the idea that these zodiac animals have much in common with human nature, is something which mystifies a lot of people.
In the olden times the Chinese people used to follow the 12 year calendar which was much too difficult to understand by the common people. Therefore they found a system of repeating the 12 animals in a cyclic order after every 12 years.
Each New Year is ascribed to an animal. The year of the same animal repeats back after every twelve years. People born in the year of a particular animal are believed to have the characteristics of that animal. Keep in mind these character sketches have been drawn by Chinese thinkers which may or may not capture the essence of the animal’s behavior or their connection with human behavior.

The images of the Chinese dragon and the occasion of Chinese New Year have been two eventful components of the Chinese Tradition. For thousands of years now they have still captured the same importance for themselves and exclusive presence even till date. Moreover, interestingly they are deeply intertwined with each other.
The image of the dragon is instantly recognized with the Chinese culture. It is from this very culture that the west has found the image of the dragon through martial arts flicks and other Chinese art work. For the Chinese the image of the dragon is a highly revered mythical beast that is admired for its uniqueness, beauty and auspicious powers.
With due respect to the Chinese heritage, firstly we must recognize the fact that the Chinese New Year does not coincide with the Western celebrations of the New Year. The cause behind this is that the western world follows the Gregorian solar calendar and the Chinese have always followed the lunar calendar. Thereby, the cycle of the moon decides the date on which Chinese New Year event is celebrated and this is completely on a different day from the Western New Year.

Elements in astrology
Written by dgates on June 30, 2009 – 4:47 am -Groups of signs in astrology share certain characteristics that are classified according to four earthly elements – fire, air, water and earth. It helps explain why some signs are more compatible than others.
The Fire signs are Aries (March 21 to April 19), Leo (July 23 to August 22) and Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21). Fire people are leaders, dynamic. They light up everything around them. Because Fire needs Air to exist, Fire signs are most compatible with the Air signs. Water is anathema to Fire and a Water person could try to dampen the dynamism and enthusiasm that defines Fire.
The Air signs are Aquarius (January 20 to February 18), Gemini (May 21 to June 21) and Libra (September 23 – October 22). These are the idea signs, the air that breathes a spark into a flame. They can’t be tied down. They require freedom of movement and thought.
